Between Google Earth and GIS
Moving between KML/KMZ and Shapefile is the most requested conversion there is — in both directions. Each one has its own page covering what to watch out for.

Check
GeoVerto reads the coordinate system and says how confident it is. Invalid geometries and missing sidecar files are reported before anything is converted.

Why the check matters more than the conversion
A converter that guesses the coordinate system does not fail loudly. It produces coordinates that look plausible and sit several hundred kilometres away — and you find out much later, in someone else's map. GeoVerto states what it detected and how sure it is, warns about a missing .prj next to a Shapefile, and reports invalid geometries instead of passing them through.
