GeoVerto help
Practical answers about uploaded files, coordinate systems, the quality report and rejected archives. Where a live limit is shown, it comes from the same service that enforces the limit.
Your files and privacy
What happens to a file I upload?
GeoVerto processes the file on servers in Germany. Without an account, the source is deleted when processing finishes, whether the conversion succeeds or fails. The result is deleted after download. If it is never downloaded, the anonymous source and result are removed by the configured deadline, currently 15 minutes.
A free account currently retains source files for 1 day and results for 1 day; a paid account retains sources for 30 days and results for 30 days. Files can be deleted earlier from the workspace.
A download URL itself is short-lived — currently 15 minutes. That link lifetime is separate from file retention: a fresh signed link can be issued while the result still exists.
Can GeoVerto support see my data?
Not by default. An organisation owner or administrator must explicitly grant temporary, read-only support access. That permission expires and can be revoked. Access under that permission is recorded for the organisation.
Operational logs do not contain file contents, attribute values or coordinates. When asking for help, start with the job ID rather than attaching the source file.
Which legal privacy information applies?
The legally authoritative privacy notice is the German document at geoverto.de/datenschutz. The English pages explain product behaviour but do not replace that notice or the German terms.
Formats and coordinates
Why does GeoVerto ask for a coordinate system when I upload DXF?
DXF does not carry a standard CRS definition. It contains coordinate pairs without saying whether they are UTM metres, another projected grid or local drawing units. Guessing can produce a valid file in the wrong location, so GeoVerto asks you to provide the source CRS.
Follow the DXF coordinate-system guide to check the supplier metadata, coordinate range, unit and a known point.
Why must a Shapefile be uploaded as a ZIP?
A Shapefile is a matching set rather than one file: .shp stores geometry,.shx the geometry index and .dbf the attributes. A .prj normally stores the CRS, and a .cpg can specify text encoding. A ZIP keeps those parts together.
If the .prj is missing, use the missing-PRJ guide before assigning a CRS.
Which formats are supported?
The format directory documents 12 commonly encountered formats, while the converter catalogue lists the exact source-to-target workflows currently published in English. DWG and LAS/LAZ point clouds are not currently accepted; export DWG from the source CAD application as DXF.
The quality report
What is an invalid geometry?
Examples include a polygon that crosses itself, an unclosed ring or a hole outside its polygon. A desktop GIS may still draw such a feature, but intersections, area calculations or database imports can fail later. GeoVerto reports the affected geometry count before conversion and can apply the available repair option when you choose it.
What does CRS confidence mean?
It indicates how reliable the coordinate-system identification is. Metadata read directly from the file provides stronger evidence than a guess based only on coordinate ranges. If no CRS definition exists, GeoVerto asks for a source system instead of silently committing to one.
Limits and rejected uploads
Why was my upload rejected?
- It exceeded the file limit. The current maximum is 100 MB without an account and 2 GB for the paid account class.
- The hourly upload limit was reached. The service currently permits 3 anonymous, 200 signed-in paid and 1000 API-key uploads per hour for the respective access class.
- The archive failed a safety check. ZIP entries that escape the target directory, symbolic links, nested archives or implausible compression ratios are rejected before extraction.
- The extension did not match the selected conversion. Use the converter page for the actual source format.
Can I automate conversions?
Yes. GeoVerto exposes the HTTP API used by the web interface. API keys and webhooks are managed from the signed-in workspace where available for the account and plan. Client SDKs exist in the codebase but are not yet presented here as publicly distributed packages.
When something goes wrong
What should I send to support?
Use the contact page and include the job ID, the source and target formats, and what you expected. Do not attach the source dataset unless support asks for it. If inspection is necessary, GeoVerto can use the temporary support-access flow for a signed-in workspace.
Where can I check service status?
The public status page is currently maintained on the German domain: geoverto.de/status. It reads the current state of the running service.
