Convert Shapefile to GeoPackage

Replace a fragile sidecar bundle with a single database file that is easier to store, transfer and edit.

Drop your Shapefile file here or click to choose

Upload one ZIP containing .shp, .shx, .dbf and .prj — not the .shp file by itself. If .prj is missing, GeoVerto requires the source EPSG code before conversion.

How this conversion works

GeoVerto reads the complete Shapefile set and writes its geometry, DBF fields and coordinate reference into a GeoPackage layer.

A Shapefile is a bundle rather than one file. Geometry, index and attributes live in separate sidecars; the .prj is what tells GeoVerto where the coordinates belong.

What the GeoPackage result contains

GeoPackage is a single SQLite-based GIS file that supports typed attributes, long field names, CRS metadata and several geometry types without Shapefile's sidecar-file limits.

Check before you use the result

  • Field names already truncated in the source DBF cannot be reconstructed during conversion.
  • If the .prj is missing, supply or verify the source CRS before relying on the GeoPackage location.

GeoVerto reports the detected format, feature count and coordinate-system evidence before starting the job. Treat a low-confidence or missing CRS as a data question to resolve, not a value the converter should silently guess.
