Convert DXF to Shapefile
Move an exchange drawing into a conventional GIS format for spatial analysis and delivery.
Upload one .dxf file.
How this conversion works
GeoVerto interprets DXF entities in the source CRS you select, transforms them to the chosen target CRS (WGS 84 by default) and separates point, line and polygon geometry into valid Shapefile sets.
DXF coordinates are drawing units without an embedded CRS. GeoVerto therefore requires the source CRS instead of guessing; CAD layer, colour and element information can be carried as attributes where the target permits it.
What the Shapefile result contains
The download is a ZIP containing the required .shp, .shx, .dbf and .prj sidecars. Shapefile permits only one geometry type per layer and limits field names to ten characters.
Check before you use the result
- DXF does not declare its GIS coordinate system, so the source CRS must come from the drawing's documentation.
- DWG is not accepted; export it as DXF in the originating CAD program.
GeoVerto reports the detected format, feature count and coordinate-system evidence before starting the job. Treat a low-confidence or missing CRS as a data question to resolve, not a value the converter should silently guess.
