GPS Exchange Format (GPX)
GPX is an XML exchange format for GPS data. Outdoor apps, sports watches and navigation devices use it for individual waypoints, planned routes and recorded tracks.
- Best used for
- Moving routes, track recordings and points of interest between GPS devices, fitness services, outdoor apps and GIS software.
- GeoVerto support
- GeoVerto reads and writes GPX in the general converter. Waypoints, routes and tracks appear as separate source layers when they coexist in one file.
Three feature types
wptrepresents a standalone waypoint.rterepresents a planned route as an ordered sequence of route points.trkrepresents a recorded track, often with time and elevation values.
Files and coordinate system
One .gpx file is self-contained. GPX coordinates are always WGS 84 latitude/longitude; there is no field for selecting another CRS.
Limits to know
- GPX has no polygon feature type.
- Its standard attribute set is deliberately small; vendor-specific values live in extensions and may not transfer between applications.
- It does not define portable map styling.
Supported conversions

- Convert GPX to CSV — Extract named locations from a GPX file into a table for lists, reporting or further processing.
- Convert GPX to GeoJSON — Publish saved GPS locations as a browser-friendly FeatureCollection without changing their coordinate system.
